MANVEL — Terry Allen scored 27 points to lead league-leading Manvel past Clear Falls 80-52 to keep the Mavs perfect with a 10-0 district mark and 24-4 overall.
But it wasn't a one-man show as D.J. Cunning and Traylin Farris both scored 12 points while Cameron Wright added 11.
Clear Falls is just in their second year of existence, but they played Manvel close early in the game.
Manvel managed to get a 21-18 lead in the first eight minutes, but the athleticism and experience began to take over in the second quarter as the Mavs outscored the visitors 16-10 for a 37-28 lead at intermission.
The Mavs double up Clear Falls 25-12 in the third and closed the game out 18-12 in the final quarter for the lopsided 80-62 district win.
Manvel will host Friendswood on Friday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m. and then travel to Galveston to face Ball High on Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
Manvel 74 - Ball High 45
Manvel won a hard-fought game against Dawson 86-81 to remain undefeated after the first round of district play.
The Mavericks hosted last year's 4A Region III finalist Ball High and kept their unbeaten mark in district intact with a 74-45 spanking as the Tornadoes haven't won a district game this season and are reeling in the opposite direction.
Both teams battle back-and-forth in the opening quarter with the Mavs edging the Tors 17-16, but that is as close as the game would get as Manvel blew out the Ball in the second quarter 30-10 for a commanding 47-26 halftime lead.
The third quarter was strange as both teams managed only six points leaving the Mavs with a 53-32 lead.
Manvel woke up in the fourth period to run past the Tors 21-13 and a 74-45 win.
D.J. Cunning led the Mavs with 17 points while Cameron Wright had 14 and Terry Allen, who scored 31 against Dawson, tossed in 1.
