Manvel routs Alvin 73-7

MANVEL — It didn't take long for the Manvel Mavericks to begin their rout of the Alvin Yellowjackets as senior QB D'Eriq King took the reins early to lead the Mavs to a quick 21-0 lead after the first quarter of action.

Manvel kept the foot on the gas with 42 more points in the second period for a lopsided 63-0 lead at intermission.

The Mavs (6-1, 5-0) have dominated the Jackets since they were placed in the same district and it was no different this year.

Surprisingly, Alvin (4-3, 2-3) still has a chance to join their cousin in the post-season, but they must beat the Pasadena Dobie Longhorns to join Manvel, Pearland, and Dawson in the playoffs.

But on this night, the Jackets were no match for the much more talented and aggressive Mavericks who closed out the game by the score of 73-7.

Manvel head coach Kirk Martin substituted freely in the second half as the Mavs scored only 10 points while Alvin finally got on the board with only 54 seconds remaining in the game.

The Mavs outgained Alvin 623 to 173.

King was 9-of-12 passing for 242 yards and four TDs while QB Kyle Trask was 5-of-7 for 94 yards and one score.

RB D'Vaughn Pennamon had only seven carries for 113 yards and three touchdowns.

WR Reggie Hemphill had three catches for 55 yards and one score while Keylon Stokes had four grabs for 132 yards and one TD.

Manvel will host winless Sam Rayburn on Friday, October 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Alvin Memorial Stadium.

Alvin faces Dobie on Thursday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Pasadena Veterans Stadium that will more than likely determine the playoff fate for both teams.
