Friendswood girls fall to Memorial
The Friendswood girls entered their game against Goose Creek Memorial with the Lady Patriots looking to stay in the hunt with Dawson and Ball High for the district championship. Friendswood was just trying to keep GC Memorial from sweeping them season.
Friendswood led 25-24 at halftime, but the Lady Patriots seized the momentum coming out of the break by scoring the first four pooints of the quarter for a 28-25 advantage.
The battle continued as GC Memorial outscored the Lady Mustangs for a slim 38-36 lead entering the final period.
With 2:27 left in the game, Faith Cook coverted a free throw giving the Lady Pats a 43-42 lead. Two possessions later, Cook sank a jumper with less than a minute to ice the game for Memorial 45-42.
Cook was the leading scorer for GCM with 14 points.

The Lady Mustangs (21-8, 9-4) played Dawson at home on Tuesday (late). A win by Dawson will give them a share of the district while Memorial and Ball High also battle for a share of the crown in the final game of the regular season.
Texas City drops Friendswood boys
The Friendswood Mustangs easily defeated Texas City in the first round of district 69-49, but the Stings turned the tables on the 'Stangs with a 71-52 win to hand Friendswood their first district loss.
The first three quarters appeared similar to be a game that would go down to the last shot. However,
a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from senior Cory Johnson at the end of the third quarter put Texas City up, 47-44, to start the fourth, and the Stings never looked back.
Texas City would outscore the visitors 24-8 down the stretch to get the lopsided victory.
Friendswood senior Chris Collins had 12 points for the Mustangs, and Hinchcliffe finished with nine points and three blocked shots.
The Stings' Carver Hardy had 13 points and six steals, and senior Murquell Smith came up with 10 points and three rebounds. Junior Dettrick Blow contributed 11 points.
Dawson routs Ganders 83-46
The Dawson Eagles blew out Baytown Lee 83-46 to set up their showdown with Friendswood on Tuesday (late). The Eagles got the help they needed to get back into contention to defend their district title as Texas City handed the Mustangs their first district loss.
Dawson lost to Friendswood by a single-point in the first round. The Eagles knocked off Texas City and now have their site set on avenging the loss to the 'Stangs.
The Eagles kept their focus with an 83-46 beating over the Ganders.
Jordan Lewis led the way for Dawson with 19 points while Trey Sumpter added 16, C.J. Simmons had 12, and Nick Bennett tossed in 10.
