ORLANDO, Florida — If a track team is going to win a track meet, it might as well be at Disney World where dreams do come true.
In this case, it was the Pearland Lady Oilers who captured the Walt Disney World Invitational by scoring 196 ponts over second-place Dwyer who scored 129 points. Bishop Kenny was third with 123.5 points and then the competition dropped with West Forsyth scoring scoring 52.5 for fourth place. There were 12 other schools who finished behind the top four.
Senior Courtney Mose placed second in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:31.61 while junior Virginia Ney was a very close third in 5:31.93.
Senior Allie Saunders gave Pearland 10 more points with a first place finish in the triple jump (38'7.75"). Freshman Shelby Melinder placed fourth (33'3.75"), sophomore Christina Collins was fifth (32'7.75"), and Desiree Brown was seventh (32"3.5") which gave Pearland 21 points in that one event.
Freshman Charra Elliott picked up a gold medal in the high jump (5'4") while senior Stacie Gajevsky finished in second place (5'0") and senior Kathleen Van Lowe finished fifth (5'0").
Pearland's 4x200 meter relay picked up another first place with a time of 1:43.39.
Mose stepped back on the track picked up a gold medal with a winning time of 2.27.45 in the 800 meters. Junior Lucille Little was fifth in 2:34.47.
Pearland 4x400 meter relay won that event with a time of 4:04.89 which added 10 more points to their team total.
Senior Linsey Chapa placed second in the 100 meter hurdles (15.99). Sophomore Ashton Thomas was seventh (18.09).
Pearland won the 4,000 meter relay with a time of 13:13.18.
Senior Deijonna Hall placed fifth in the shot put (32'3.5") while Freshman Nkolike Nweke placed sixth (31'.05").
Sophomore Tiara Johnson placed second in the 200 meters (25.52) with Nweke placing fifth (26.34).
Nweke placed fourth in the 100 meters (12.86).
The Lady Oilers also won the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 48.70.
Allie Saunders picked up another gold medal in the long jump with a leap of 17'4". Melinder finished fourth (15'6.5") and Collins placed sixth (15'6").
Chapa placed third in the 400 meters with a time of 1.01.76.
Pearland's 4x800 meter relay team swept the relay with another win with a time of 10.16.61.
