PEARLAND — The 8th Annual Nike Bayou Bowl featuring the Texas All-Stars versus the Louisiana All-Stars will kickoff at Stallworth Stadium in Baytown on Saturday, June 12 at 8:00p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Network and streaming live on their website.
Pearland will have three key participants involved this year.
Pearland's Tony Heath will be the head coach for the Texas All-Stars. This is the third time that Heath has been involved in this charity event. He was the offensive coordinator in 2003 in the inaugural Bayou Bowl. In 2007, Heath was the defensive coordinator.
Heath begin his 14th year at the helm of the Pearland Oilers this coming season and has seen one of the great football turnarounds in Texas high school footall history. The Oilers are the 10th winningest football team in the state of any class since 2000.
Texas currently holds the edge 4-3, but each year the rival continues to build as several thousand gather to watch outstanding players from both states participate in this Battle of the Bayou.
Pearland Dawson will be represented as quarterback Darian Lazard, who is considered one of the premier players from the Houston area, will lead the Texas offense. The UH signee led the Eagles to the 2009 Class 4A Region III title and to the 4A state semifinals. Dawson was only in their second year of competition at the varsity level.
Pearland High School will be represented by offensive tackle Ian Gray who will continue his education and football prowess for the Rice Owls in 2010. The 6-8, 330 pound Gray was the anchor of the Pearland offensive line last season and was one of the top recruits for the Owls football program.
