Area gridiron standouts named to Bayou Bowl roster

PEARLAND — The annual Bayou Bowl will be played this Saturday, June 14 at Mercer Stadium in Sugar Land at 8:00 p.m. However, there are some major changes this year as compared to the game that began in 2003.

For the past 11 years, the contest was between the Texas All-Stars, which were primarily selected from the Greater Houston Aream pitted against the Louisiana All-Stars. The games were always close as Texas had a 6-4-1 edge.

The game changed completely as Louisiana had trouble fielding enough players and the decision was made by their coaches association that they were going to pull out of the game.

The organizers of the Bayou Bowl decided that they didn't want to see the game canceled so now the Bayou Bowl will feature the top players in the Houston area playing one another in an East/West match-up. Some players that once played against one another will now be teammates.

There are three players in our coverage area that will be featured on the East team.

They are defensive lineman Eric England (Dawson), quarterback Connor Heath (Pearland), and linebacker Keshon King (Manvel).

England will continue his education and playing career at Incarnate Word while Heath will move on to play for Tyler JC.

Heath's selection was particularly special as he was a ball boy during the first couple of years while his dad, Pearland head coach Tony Heath was an assistant coach in the inaugural contest. The elder Heath was the offensive coordinator in another game and the head coach of the Texas team that won by their largest margin 42-15 in 2010.
