PEARLAND — Once again, the Pearland Lady Oilers have had an outstanding season and several of the players were named to the 2014 All-District 22-5A squad.
Head coach Laneigh Clark has one of the premier teams in the state and despite having a lot of young players this season, the Lady O's still managed to finish second in the district and a sparkling 27-10 mark.
The Lady Oilers advanced in the playoffs to the Class 5A Region III semifinals before falling to Bellaire.
There is no question that Pearland will be a major contender to challenge for the league title and region championship next season in their quest to return to the state softball tournament. Pearland won the Region III crown three straight years in 2009-2011 and brought home the state championship in 2010.

Pearland had seven players named to the All-District first-team including all the infield positions except third base. The Lady Oilers will return all the players except Texas A&M bound shortstop Kristen Cuyos. Cuyos was named to the Texas Girls Coaches All-State and All-Star team.
Junior catcher Sydney McKay was named as first-team catcher. McKay hit .344 with four doubles, four triples, 27 RBIs, and scored 30 runs.
Sophomore Sydney Gutierrez was named first-team first base after she hit. 340 with one double, one triple, six RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Freshman Ashlynn Walls was a second base pick as she hit .357 with three doubles, five RBIs, and 21 runs scored.
Senior Kristen Cuyos was picked at shortstop. The four-year All-Stater has been one of the team leaders. Cuyos hit .529 with 13 doubles, 1 triple, four home runs, 40 RBIs, and 28 runs scored. The All-Greater Houston pick will certainly missed next season.
Sophmore Lindsey Stewart was named to the outfield after she hit .505 with four doubles, two triples, one home run, and 51 runs scored. Stewart was recently named to the Chronicle's All-Greater Houston team.

Junior Rylie Spell was named as a designated player after she hit.442 with 11 doubles, two triples, and a team-leading 10 home runs with 45 RBIs.
Sophomore pitcher Alyssa Denham was named as an At-Large position after she posted a 17-6 record. She pitched 131.1 innings, struck out 165 while finishing with a 1.44 ERA. Denham is the pitcher of the future for the Lady Oilers and will no doubt return for her junior season much more experienced.
The Lady Oilers had one player named to the second-team and that was junior Madeline Myers at third base. Myers hit .373 with five doubles, two triples, three home runs, 17 RBIs, and 17 runs scored.
Congratulations to all these players and it appears that 2015 will be an even greater season.
